Left Sedona early as we had a long way to drive.  Stopped off at Meteor Crater to see the crater left when a meteorite hit the plain 50,000 years ago.  Fascinating place with a very informative guide who told the story of how it was believed to be a volcano until 1961.  The original owner went bankrupt in 1923 after trying to look for iron from the meteorite without knowing that it had mostly vapourised on impact.

Then off to the Petrified Forest where they have varied coloured canyons called the painted desert.  Then a couple of hikes around the areas where they have the petrified wood from 210 million years ago.  They are very hot on stopping people take any samples but then outside the park they have shops with literally hundreds of tons of petrified wood!

Very windy today, especially on the exposed plains East of Flagstaff.  Stopped briefly in Topock to take pictures of the old cars at Wigwam Motel.  Drove to Winslow for the night.
