Left Maribor after filling up with petrol and shopping. Passed a couple of ski runs. Set off to lake Balaton as it's expected to get up to 34° in the next week so want to be near some water.
Crossing the border into Hungary, the land got much flatter and one is struck by the amount of space - miles of farmland with no buildings. Not surprising seeing as the whole of Hungary has roughly the same population as London. Tried to get to grips with a few Hungarian phrases but it's a weird language and town names are ridiculously long like Vonyarcvashegy, Balatongyörök, and Szentkiralyszabadja.
Badacsony campsite is in an area of extinct volcanoes with one basalt plug directly behind it. The campsite itself is ok but the view of the lake is a 20 metre strip of waterfront flanked by tall reeds with a metal stairway taking you into brownish water patrolled by a swan - not very inviting to say the least and neither of us fancied a dip in it.
At 6pm (still boiling hot) decided we'd take a bike ride for a nicer view of the lake. Just 8 minutes away was the ferry pier and a "beach" area. It had a seasidey feel to it and we watched the old trains go by for a while - throwbacks from communist times.
Got back by 8. Mosquito signs at the campsite mean one of us needs to be tucked inside the motorhome by dusk.
