Left the peaceful riverside spot and set off for Montréal. As soon as we entered Quebec road signs, shop signs etc. were in French - very strange. Got to our campsite by the river at noon and took our bikes on the ferry to the old port. Immediately struck by how European it feels. Wandered around the market hall, lit candles in Notre-Dame de Bonsecours which had the cutest fishing boat lights, cycled further up to the Basilica of Notre Dame which had beautiful stained glass windows and atmospheric lighting. Cycled around the port area then finished off having a poutine - traditional Canadian dish of chips, curd cheese and gravy. Had to try it once! Filled a hole but nothing special. Took the ferry back past the island with the F1 race track and another with a huge funfair on it. Chilled for the rest of the evening.
