After feeding today's visiting cats walked to bus 24 (which quickly filled with over 80s so had to give up seat). First stop in the centre was the Mother Teresa museum (born in Skopje) . Walked through squares with huge statues built after the earthquake of 63, then across the Vardar river to the bazaar area. Lots of gold, souvenirs, meringue wedding dresses and cafés. Stopped for a freshly squeezed pomegranate juice and was deafened by call to prayer over tannoys. Next walked up to the fort for views of the city then a long walk to the zoo. With an entry fee of just over £1 it was well worth it just to see a hippo within touching distance. Couldn't believe people were feeding emus with wotsits. Crammed onto a bus back to the centre (Public transport seems insufficient). Were hoping to book a table at the Gardenia folk dance restaurant but it was locked for renovation so had a meal in the restaurant next door. Squeezed into the bus back. An exhausting day!
