After a couple of scrambled oeufs left the campsite at exactly 7 (barriers don't open before then) and set off for Passo Tre Croci, the trailhead for Lago Di Sorapiss.

Started off nice and easy in pine scented forest full of ferns, wild flowers and butterflies - even saw wild roses and small pink rhododendrons.

After an hour it got more challenging and rocky with some clambering over boulders and across river beds (one still had some snow). There were staircases and narrow paths with sheer cliffs below and only a metal wire to hold on to for those like Stuart, who have a fear of heights. Too busy holding on to take any photos at that point!

The views were incredible and Lake Sorapsis very blue. The Refugio at the top is restocked every week by helicopter as there is no other way of getting stuff there. It was a very exciting and beautiful hike and Stuart managed to push through (albeit with a heart rate of 160 in places) and it took us 6 hours with a 45 minute stop at the lake.

Back at the campsite, exhausted and sunburnt, put all the sweaty hiking gear straight in the wash and relaxed. Early night tonight.
