After a hearty buffet breakfast headed west out of Prague past fields of hops and towards the spa town Karlovy Vary - also known as Karlsbad. Another very hot day at 29°.

Arrived in the heat of the day and firstly did some admin and washing before finally setting off at 4 by bike to the town centre intending to sit in hot springs for a couple of hours however there was so much to see we shelved that idea.

It was a very grand old town mainly built in the 1800s and we figured out why everyone was walking around with a strange assortment of mugs with spouts - to sample the waters of the 16 hot springs in the town.

Zoe bought a heart shaped mug and we did the same but could only manage small sips (and Stuart decided he'd better not risk a dodgy stomach) as the waters had a metallic taste and varied in temperature from 14° (spring Stephanie) to 75° - almost too hot to handle. The hottest spring had a geyser-like fountain and outside steaming water was trickling into the river.

Cycled back along the river to our racecourse pitch at 8pm, the temperature now very pleasant.
