Drove an hour to Zans Alm to do the Adolph Munkel walk. A beautiful circular walk of about 4 hours with the backdrop of Dolomite peaks for most of the route. Glorious sunshine accompanied the smell of pine trees. Stopped 2/3 of the way round for a beer at an alpine restaurant. Speaking to a German family we found out why German is spoken so much here. Turns out heat South Tyrol was Austrian until the end of the WWI when the Italians took it. Germany took it back briefly in 1943 when the Italians surrendered but it was given back to Italy in 1945. It's now a semi-autonomous region of Italy which had separatist terrorists until the 1970s. 2/3 of the people speak German as their first language. Then back to the campsite for beer on the deck and a shower.
