A late start. Took an Uber into the centre of Detroit and did a walking tour around the sights and down to the river overlooking Canada. Learnt that the words Detroit and Cadillac were from the French settlers in 1700s. Stopped in the Renaissance Centre, which was once full of shops but now has the General Motors headquarters. Saw more lovely old cars - Corvette, Cadillac etc. The foundation of GM was the Grabowski brothers motor vehicle company. Next got on the free people mover (a driverless monorail) and stayed on for a circuit and a half. Meandered past the Detroit Tigers baseball stadium with a game in play then stopped for another burger meal at JoJos. Detroit is a lot smaller than we were expecting. It feels strangely empty, has some empty shops and doesn't have the "buzz" of a big city as if it still hasn't recovered from its depression.
In the evening drove to a Trader Joes and the suburbs are quite nice - green and tree lined with well kept gardens, the ones we saw at least.
